With the increased distribution of the COVID vaccine, it has now been announced to the public that fully vaccinated people do not have to wear their masks in public. President Biden has recently stated that with guidance from the CDC, he urges Americans to go out and get vaccinated and says that if you are fully vaccinated, you no longer have to wear a mask.
The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) helps to show “people do not need to wear masks outdoors and can avoid wearing them indoors in most places” Biden also stated that anyone over the age of twelve is eligible.
Masks will still be required for those who aren’t vaccinated or don’t plan on getting vaccinated. Biden reported on this by saying, “Get vaccinated or wear a mask until you do.”
According to NBCNews, Biden’s news has created mixed feelings among the staff in the White House. The staff’s feeling towards the new mask mandate lift seemed split after seeing “Secret Service agents posted around the White House on Friday, who continued to wear masks” while other staff chose not to.
As for COVID vaccines, live updates by Our World in Data shows that there have been 274M doses given and 123M that are fully vaccinated in the U.S. This means only an estimated 37.6% has been vaccinated as of May 17.
