One night at 8:00 pm, September 7th, there were 10 fires in multiple locations around Healdsburg. They were located on Mill Creek, and some were on Healdsburg Avenue near Passalacqua road. Thankfully, no one was hurt and no homes were damaged. According to a family on ABC 7 news, “Until an arrest is made, it will be tough to feel safe.¨
Chief Basgue said, “They were lighting them in really bad spots, bases of hills, there are homes everywhere . It's very concerning.” I, myself, had a first person experience related to these fires. My family and I were on our way back from visiting some other family members, and right as we got home we got all these texts and warnings about fires all over Healdsburg. That indicated that the people who started the fires could have been right behind us! Ashley Berhens from Healdsburg High School said that she believes that ¨It's very un-okay and that person needs to go to a mental institution, and they should be [severely punished].” She also added that if it was later in the night, and no one knew about it, some properties would definitely have gone up in flames.
Thankfully, no one was injured and there were no structures damaged, but the fear of it happening again remains until the responsible parties are found.
