Healdsburg High School football has not performed well in recent years up until the 2021-22 season. They overcame a huge bump in the road with a thrilling win on the 27th of August, beating Fort Bragg 20-14 to notch the first win in four years.

The team had traveled 3 hours up the coast to play the Fort Bragg Timberwolves in their first game of the season. Healdsburg did not start off too strong as they gave up a safety early to make it 0-2 to start the first quarter, and they had several penalties on both sides of the ball. Senior quarterback and defensive back, Jesus Anguiano, snagged a huge interception with one hand to give back possession late into the second quarter. Just before halftime, Fort Bragg fumbled and the ball was scooped up for a touchdown by Healdsburg to make it 7-2.

In the second half, the Timberwolves responded with a touchdown with 5 minutes left in the third quarter. Quickly after this, senior Jose Nuñez returned a punt to make it 14-8. To wrap up the scoring, the Hounds tallied another touchdown, and Fort Bragg answered with one of their own near the end of the game.

The Healdsburg Hounds had finally won a football game and star senior Wide Receiver, Matthew Teldeschi, AKA Sticks, shared some of his thoughts on the victory. When asked how he prepared for the first game of the season, he responded, “I literally just listened to music for the whole bus ride there, which was a 2 hour drive, and I stayed hydrated all day and watched what I was eating before the game.” When asked what he was feeling when the final whistle was blown, he acknowledged, “I felt relieved that we finally won a game for the Healdsburg high school football team after so many years.”

It was inspiring to see our high school win a football game after many years of losing seasons to pay back the fans who have stuck with the team through the lean times.
