The new year is given to us, and it gives us a chance to start fresh; why not take advantage of that?
2022 has begun! It's a new year, so time for resolutions! The tradition of resolutions has existed for 4,000 years, and was created by the Babylonians. The Babylonians would make promises to their gods in hopes of a successful new year. The practice has not only continued for ages, but the value and importance of the resolutions continues to grow. The tradition is to set goals for yourself to achieve in the new year. Some common goals are to change undesired behaviors, accomplish new goals, self improvement, and make a change for the good of the world as a whole. The new year is given to us, and it gives us a chance to start fresh; why not take advantage of that?
All the juniors were asked to come up with one word in Junior Seminar to set a tone for their new year. This one word helps with achieving goals, focusing on the important things, and having something to guide us through the year and keeping us motivated toward our goals.
The words the juniors chose all had special meaning to them. Each person explained why they chose that certain word, its importance to them, and how they are going to use this specific word to take on the new year. Many juniors identified the word “dedication”. They want to be dedicated to school, sports, jobs and more. Another common word was “achieve”. Students chose this word because they want to overcome unknown obstacles in the way of achieving their goals. Lastly, many students also liked the word “perseverance”. They chose this word because they wanted to stop procrastinating and persevere through challenges. All these optimistic and motivational resolutions mark an exciting beginning of 2022 for Healdsburg High School!
