Many students at HHS are familiar with the name Jackson Boaz. Last school year he was a student who was known throughout the school for being politically and academically ambitious. Because of distance learning, many students may not have noticed that Jackson is no longer attending HHS or living in Healdsburg. Jackson would have been a sophomore at HHS this year, but he decided to test out of high school and focus on other career goals. Regardless of how you know Jackson, he has an interesting personality and many even speculated about him becoming the president one day, although that is not one of his goals. His goals do include managing many large campaigns and hopefully becoming White House Chief of Staff.

Jackson is currently in Des Moines, Iowa. He is staying with a couple who he encountered through a string of connections who have been very kind in allowing him to temporarily stay with them. Jackson expressed a lot of gratitude for this couple while I was interviewing him. He stated “I very much enjoy living in an urban area,” it is clear that he is having a good time being independent in the real world. Not many people live permanently away from home at the age of 16.

The question that I’m sure many people find themselves asking is; why now? Why not wait a couple of years to start your political career? When asked about this Jackson explained that “I knew that this election was going to be so important and I had to go out to make sure that we win.” The election currently happening is a major event that will certainly shape the course of history so it makes sense that Jackson would want to do whatever he can to make an impact on it.

Jackson is working for Congresswoman Cindy Axne’s re-election campaign. He saw the job opening while looking for things to do in the fall and was inspired by Axne and what she has done so he decided to work on her campaign. While Jackson finds himself doing a series of campaign tasks, much of his job consists of recruiting volunteers and convincing voters to support Axne’s re-election, as well as the election of Theresa Greenfield to the Senate and Joe Biden to the Presidency.

When asked if he is enjoying his work in Iowa, Jackson responded by saying “Yes. Beyond just a yes, this work is so important, and I am lucky to be working with such a good team.” The work isn’t easy, and yet he continues to do his required high school classes online while working a full time job.

Jackson has a lot on his plate and is very busy. When I asked him what he spends his free time doing he laughed and said “I don’t have free time to be completely honest.” He is working very diligently and tirelessly in order to pursue his passions.

Jackson does miss many parts of Healdsburg, although he is very diligently and tirelessly in order to pursue his passions.

Jackson does miss many parts of Healdsburg, although he is very enthusiastic about Des Moines. He is even still managing Healdsburg City Council candidate Ariel Kelley’s campaign. Jackson is still very much involved in the politics of Healdsburg and has not quite truly left the town yet. He will most likely return to Healdsburg at some point in November, although the future is very uncertain for him right now, considering a lot of changes may be happening over the next couple of months.

Jackson will never return to Healdsburg High School and is applying for colleges right now. He is hoping to get into Yale in order to continue his education and to move up in the world. He has other college options on the east coast picked out in the case that he does not get into Yale. The future is very uncertain in Jackson’s life at the moment but it is apparent that he has a bright future ahead of him.

I asked Jackson to give a message to all HHS students and he responded with a call to action. “What is going on in the world can seem really distant and unimportant but the work that so many people are doing right now is very important.” He encourages students to step up and to try to acknowledge and address the issues that society is facing right now. “We all have to step up because this stuff is just too important to not do so.”

Most people would not go to lengths that Jackson Boaz does in order to support what they believe in, but it is really important that everyone informs themselves. Like Jackson says, many of these issues may seem irrelevant at first glance, but if you take the time to delve deeper into the facts and the details of these situations you may find yourself motivated to stand for what you believe in.
